- 1 cup whole milk (or a mix of milk/cream)
- 2 large egg yolks
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: 1 tsp cornstarch
Steps
- 1 Whisk yolks, sugar, salt, and cornstarch.
- 2 Heat milk in a small saucepan until simmering.
- 3 Temper yolks by whisking in half the hot milk, then return all to the pan.
- 4 Cook on low, stirring constantly, for 3–5 minutes until it coats a spoon. Stir in vanilla.
